'I particularly enjoyed the conducting of Alice Farnham, who was alive to the needs of the singers and also provided a rich sense of musical character. The overture was remarkably well played by the CPO, and whether it was the accompaniments to the arias and duets, or the more dramatic choral passages, the orchestra under Farnham always gave just the right support.
