Alice was one of the last students of the legendary Russian conducting pedagogue Ilya Musin from 1997-1999, and continued her studies with Leonid Korchmar until 2000.   She is passionate about passing on the St Petersburg Musin School to new generations of conductors.

'Alice Farnham just made a triumphant debut at the Mariinsky Theatre (2013).  I can say that Alice Farnham is an excellent exemplar of this great (Musin) school of conducting.  She conducts in a manner that is fluid, clear, expressive, encouraging the orchestra to sing.  It is conducting that moves beyond simple rhythmic organisation and actually guides and shapes the sound of the orchestra'.

Despite her busy schedule, teaching is an important part of Alice's portfolio, and she is much in demand both in the UK and internationally.  She has directed the Advanced Conductors Course at Dartington International Summer School since 2022.  She is also asked to give masterclasses and workshops with many presitigious institutions such as the Purcell School, Wells Cathedral Choir School, The Glasshouse Gateshead, and the National Open Youth Orchestra.  In 2023 Alice was invited as an International Guest Teacher on the Masters and Honours Programmes at the Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide, South Australia.

In addition to continuing her work with women, trans and non-binary conductors, she is developing workshops and courses designed to encourage younger talented musicians from all genders and backgrounds that have not traditionally produced conductors.

Alice also teaches one-to-one conducting lessons on zoom.  For further information please enquire via the Contact Page.
