Women Conductors

'Women Conductors is doing something fantastic: a programme for women conductors taught by the very gifted Alice Farnham.'    Sir Antonio Pappano

In 2013 an idea came to Alice - simply to encourage women to try conducting, and in 2014 she Co-Founded Women Conductors @ Morley with Andrea Brown.   The following year it won a Classical NEXT innovation award.  In 2016 it moved to the Royal Philharmonic Society and under Alice's artistic vision, WoCo has helped transform the conducting scene beyond recognition.

In recent years WoCo and Alice have collaborated with the Royal Northern Sinfonia in a ground-breaking programme with conductors at the start of their careers.

From 2017 to 2022 she was Artistic Director of the National Concert Hall Female Conductor Programme in Ireland which won a Business to Arts Award in 2019.

As Artistic Advisor, she helped set up Perth Symphony Orchestra's Women on the Podium in 2019, and even during the pandemic gave masterclasses and mentored conductors on this programme.  Since 2022 she travels to Western Australia to teach Advanced, Intermediate and Emerging Scholars on their annual symposium.

Since 2018 Alice has taught alongisde Sian Edwards on the Glover-Edwards Conducting Programme for female conductors at the Royal Academy of Music.

She has been on the Guest Faculty of The Dallas Opera’s Hart Institute for Women ConductorsDirigent  for Kultur i Väst in Sweden.
